Class Clowns 2018

We’re searching for the funniest teenager in the Riverina.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is on the hunt for Australia’s funniest secondary school peeps for its annual Class Clowns comedy competition.  For the second year the spotlight is focused on Wagga Wagga as the Civic Theatre hosts a regional heat.  Last year the Upper Foyer of the Theatre was sizzling with laughs and a comedy lounge vibe.  This year we’re taking over the Museum of the Riverina’s Historic Council Chambers as the Theatre undergoes refurbishment.

How can you be part of the funniness – an overview

Teens in Years 9-12 (or between the ages of 14-18 years old) can now sign up for free to work alongside some of the festival’s finest comic talent, polishing up their own original five minutes of stand- up, sketch or musical comedy for a real live public performance hosted by a professional comedian during Melbourne International Comedy Festival in April 2018.

Participants will battle it out for the prize of $1,500 for themselves and a $1,000 workshop package for their school.

From comedy workshops in schools to a national comedy competition, Class Clowns engages and inspires the young and funny to hone their potential. Last year hundreds of teens participated in Class Clowns with NSW’s Daniel Reeve taking out the National gong.

Past participants include Joel Creasey, Rhys Nicholson, Aaron Chen and Tom Ballard.

A professional comedian will put you through your paces in a workshop from 4pm to 6pm. You’ll learn some tips and tricks for performing on stage.  At 7pm you’ll perform your prepared piece.  Your friends and family can come and support you – they’ll need to buy a ticket which is a bargain at $15 each.  Click on this button to buy tickets to see the performance.  If you are competing you do not need to buy a ticket for yourself.

If this is all just a bit confusing and you're not sure what the next step is.... the best local contact is Isobel MacCallum at the Civic Theatre – phone 6926 9692.
