Apathy for Beginners
Sweden has a crisis on its hands. Children of refugee parents have fallen ill; they refuse to eat, drink and lie still in their beds having no contact with the outside world. To the media, these children are ‘the apathetic’ but is this really a case of spontaneous apathy or are the children really ill? Some claim the children are feigning illness to stay in Sweden. Perhaps the government, residents and media are really the true apathetic; manipulating the story to meet their own interests.
Inspired by the Swedish novel The Apathetic by Gellert Tamas, Apathy for Beginners is a dark comedy of 34 roles that explores the truth amongst all the noise. The CSU Riverina Playhouse will host the premiere of the very first production of Apathy for Beginners in English.
Hold onto your morals, all is not what it seems.
