Baroque Festival - Pop Barock

2020 WAGGA WAGGA BAROQUE MUSIC FESTIVAL

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 21 TO SUNDAY FEBRUARY 23, 2020

Proudly presented by the Riverina Conservatorium of Music.

Enjoy a weekend of performances ranging from pre-baroque to contemporary music - all with a strong connection to the baroque period.

The Baroque period refers to an era that started around 1600, and included composers like Bach, Vivaldi and Handel, who pioneered new styles like the concerto and the sonata. The Baroque period saw an explosion of new musical styles with the introduction of the concerto, the sonata and the opera.

With International and Australian musicians who share a passion for early music, this is a weekend of music not to be missed!

PopBarock Baroque music... played popperly

Recorder virtuoso Kimberley Scriven will again combine forces with Rhiannon Xeros (violin), Harold Gretton (guitars) and David Chaston (cello) to show Wagga audiences how to play Baroque music... popperly. If your ambition is to get a better Händel on the Beatles, if you've ever wondered whether Vivaldi would find Coldplay hot, or if you just want to ABBA good time getting Bach to basics, then this is the concert for you. With their usual capricious blend of Baroque, pop and folk music, PopBarock are offering a surprisingly entertaining concert.

The WAGGA WAGGA BAROQUE FESTIVAL consists of three concerts.  These are:

  • PopBarock
Friday 21 February 7pm,  Wagga Wagga Art Gallery
