Explore what makes a theatre tick, meet the people who work in the industry and experience the theatre from a completely different perspective.
Ever wondered what really happens behind the curtain?
Our annual Work Experience Week gives secondary school students the chance to go behind the scenes at the Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre and discover what it takes to bring live performance to the stage.
Work Experience Week is designed as an immersive introduction to the world of live performance.
Students spend time with different teams across the Civic Theatre, gaining an insight into the diverse roles involved in running a busy performing arts venue, including:
Venue Management – discover how we manage the venue, events, audiences and visiting productions.
Marketing – see how shows find their audiences through digital, social, print and other marketing channels.
Box Office – learn what happens behind the scenes of ticketing, customer service and event sales.
Technical – get an introduction to the lighting, sound and technical skills that help bring performances to life.
Throughout the week, students will also take part in theatre tours, practical activities and sessions with theatre professionals. Where possible, you’ll see events and performances in action and get a first-hand look at what happens before, during and after a show.
Work Experience Week takes place once a year for one dedicated week only.
To make the experience meaningful and hands-on, places are limited and students participate as a small group, allowing everyone to get involved, ask questions and spend time with our teams.
It’s not a drop-in program or something we can offer throughout the year — so if you’re interested, make sure you submit your application early.
Applications for Work Experience Week are managed by the Wagga Wagga City Council People & Culture team.
Students must apply through the Council’s work experience program and nominate the Civic Theatre as their preferred placement.
Applications open ahead of Work Experience Week each year, with places strictly limited.
